For many years, I have been the “godmother” of a charitable association, “Valentina Association”, which takes care of some very poor children from an extremely disadvantaged area of Sector 5 in Bucharest. These are children who come from very poor families, children whose parents are often illiterate, without a job and who live almost exclusively on benefits. What does this association do? It pays for kindergarten and sends them to school, provides them with clothes, school supplies and a food package (as well as supplies for home), then takes them into an after-school program, where it feeds them, washes them, provides them with medical care, helps them with their homework, engages them in various creative activities, and provides them with psychological counseling when necessary… The children stay at Casa Valentina until the evening, when they return to their families. Parents also benefit from help: women are welcomed into the tailoring workshop, where they learn to sew, from bed linen to carnival costumes (which they can then sell to provide themselves with a source of income), and men are offered several vocational training options, and are then supported in finding a job. In addition, the association helps these families renovate and furnish their homes with the bare necessities. Essentially, what happens there is that those approximately 100 children are shown what a “normal” life means, a decent life, they are shown that there is another way of living than that based on begging or stealing – about the only options they would otherwise have. I have already organized some events – both here and in Paris – to raise funds for this association, but help is always needed. Therefore, I would like to ask the readers of "Formula AS" to lend a shoulder, as much as they can: whether they have an old TV, a stove or a carpet at home, clothes they no longer wear, or whether they can come with a donation of food or a few lei, any such charitable gesture is more than welcome. Also, anyone can help by choosing to redistribute that 2% of their salary tax to the "Valentina Association".
