A special day!

We had joys, achievements and made many hearts smile.

Friday, September 6th… the sunny courtyard of Valentina’s house is gradually filling up with children and parents preparing for the new 2019 school year.

In the rooms dedicated to homework and fun activities, the team organizes the distribution of school and hygiene kits to the 100 children enrolled in our program.

On the one hand, over 100 bags of detergent and everything necessary for the toilet – soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush, bath towels, for all families, on the other hand: colorful schoolbags for 60 kindergarten children full of watercolors, pencils and plasticine and last but not least, slightly more substantial schoolbags for the 43 children enrolled in the day center, which contain school accessories requested by the schools.

All these goods were collected thanks to the support of our loyal employees and sponsors:

  •  Telus International – they came in person to hand out the children’s school supplies
  •  Engie
  •  IBM

Many thanks also to the students of the Saint Benoit kindergarten in Versailles, who mobilized to raise the money needed to buy school bags for their friends in Bucharest. A beautiful gesture of solidarity that can be learned from a young age.

At 11:30 the distribution can begin. We start with the youngest. The newcomers make their entrance accompanied by their parents or grandparents. Their eyes are shy, their mouths gaping with reticence, but with their bags in hand, their faces light up with a wide smile and their eyes fill with joy.

It is also the turn of the older children and the teenagers. For 6 of them, this is the first time because they are new to our program.

Promises and smiles are exchanged for a school year full of hope.

This day is very special because it gives the team the vital energy to move forward. The team, formed by the association’s professionals who work daily with the children in the two programs, the families, the children, the volunteers and all our sponsors who allow the association to exist and fulfill its mission towards the vulnerable. As Gabriela, our director, says:
“What we have recovered today is priceless! The smiles of the children and the excited parents or grandparents motivate us to want to do more! One thing is clear: joy is the path that leads to the children’s hearts and success is the sum of small efforts, repeated daily.”
